Berger Kids: How do you make a turkey?
When it comes to the Thanksgiving feast, the turkey can be the hardest thing to make. Berger asked a few young cooks to pass on their advice for how to handle the bird.
First you have to pull everything out of the butt. Then you rub butter all over it. You
also have to put that stuff that makes it taste good on it. Then you put the stuffing in
the butt (you know, the hole part), put the turkey in the pan, cover it with foil, and put
it in the oven. You let it cook for about 80 minutes, maybe. I can’t tell time. I just wait
for you to say it is done. When it is out of the oven we have to keep Dad away because
he will eat all of the skin. Then we cut it and we are ready to eat.

First you buy a turkey and put it on a pan and you make dressing and put it in the
turkey. Then tie its legs together and put butter and margarine on it. Put it in the
oven at 530 degrees and cook it for four hours. And that is all and then you eat it!

You get a turkey and kill it! Then you cook it in the oven for 10 minutes,
then you pray over it. If I don’t eat it, I will give it to someone else.

Mom: How do you cook a turkey?
Nevaeh: You cook a turkey with a knife, and food utencils, and food ingredients.
Mark: Ummmm…
Jada: I know guys. First you take it out of the refrigerator. Then you give it to
Mommy. Then it will be ready.
All in agreement: Yeah!

First you go to the store and buy a turkey and filling. After you take it home you
thaw it out and take the guts out. You make the dressing out of veggies and stuff.
Next you shove the stuffing up the turkey’s butt. Next you tie up the ankles and
rub butter all over it. You also put pepper and other toppings on it. Then you put
it in the oven for a REALLY long time. Then you take it out and eat.

You have to cut turkey’s head, take off his feathers. You have to cook it in the
microwave for 4,959 and then you have to put it in the fridgerator. After it’s in
fridgerator you can eat it. Then you have to get some bread.

First I think you put sauce on it. Next I think that you have to cook it. Next I
think that you have to keep it in for 90 minutes. Then I think that you put it
on the grill. Those are the steps to make a Thanksgiving turkey.

Put the turkey in the oven.

Kill the turkey. Then take out the mouth and eyes and put carrots in it, then
wrap it in dough. Then put it on the pan and cook it at 2,000 degrees for a
whole entire day. Put it on a ginormous plate then take off the skin. Then
you can eat it.
Abby, 9 years old
Granddaughter of Robin McLemore, Berger Atlanta
You stuff it with carrots and potatoes stuffing. Put it in a pan and cook it
for two minutes and 50 seconds. Take it out of the oven. Put it on the table
with everyone and then say grace and thanks. Then cut it up and give it to
the people. But I’m not sure, really, how to cook it ’cause I’m just a kid!

Mom: Tell me how you think you cook a turkey.
Marlee: You take off its feathers and then you put it in a pan and fry it.
Mom: Is there anything else you have to do to prepare it?
Marlee: You have to take out its guts before you eat it so your family can
eat it with you. If your family goes hunting, you can either watch them,
or hunt too, with the boys.

I think how you make a Thanksgiving turkey is:
Step 1: You buy the turkey
Step 2: You cut open the turkey
Step 3: You get all the organs out of the turkey’s body
Step 4: You clean the outside of the turkey’s body
Step 5: You let the turkey go on the roaster overnight on 500 degrees
Step 6: You put all kinds of seasonings on
Step 7: You eat and enjoy your delicious Thanksgiving turkey

I will have to go to the store and get a turkey and bring it home. Then on
Thanksgiving I will put it in the oven for ten minutes. Then I will take it out
and eat it.
